Summer Camp Packing FAQ

Common questions from Scouts and parents getting ready for camp

A week of resident camp needs clothing for each day (an activity shirt and shorts per day, 9+ pairs of socks, rain gear, and a warm layer for cool nights), sleeping gear, toiletries, a refillable water bottle, a flashlight, and personal items. Use the interactive checklist above — it covers every category and saves your progress as you pack.

Leave video games, electronics, and sheath knives at home. No food in tents — all snacks are stored in the bear box at night to keep wildlife away. Pack everything in one carry-in bag that fits inside the tent, and label everything with the Scout's name and "Troop 3054."

Plan on one activity shirt and one pair of shorts per day, enough underwear for the full week, and 9+ pairs of socks — extras matter because feet get wet. Add a long-sleeve shirt, a sweater or sweatshirt, and a rain jacket or poncho for cool or wet days.

All medications — prescription and over-the-counter — must be in their original packaging, placed in a labeled zip-lock bag (full name + Troop 3054), and turned in to the camp Health Officer at check-in. Keep dosing instructions on the packaging, and make sure Health Forms A, B & C are turned in ahead of time.

Yes — bring the full Class A (field) uniform for dinners and flag ceremonies, and it's a good idea to pack two so a Scout always has a clean one. For daily wear we encourage Class B (troop activity) shirts, but any t-shirt will do — figure one per day. Adults attending also need a full Class A uniform.

Yes, with a valid Totin' Chip card, which shows the Scout has been trained in the safe use of a knife, axe, and saw. Sheath knives are not permitted.

$20–$40 for the Trading Post (snacks, drinks, and souvenirs) usually covers the week, plus about $10 extra if your troop is doing the camp photo. A Trading Post favorite is slushies — Scouts love them — so budget a little extra for cooling off on hot days.
